FINANCING A LTS EDUCATION

"Financial need should not deter qualified students from applying."

TUITION PROCESS
Long Trail School serves the community and makes every effort to help families afford tuition with the most appropriate scholarship, loan plan, payment plan (including payment by Visa/MC), or financial aid. Annual fundraising makes up the difference in our yearly operating budget and total tuition received. The Board of Trustees determines the financial aid budget each year based on anticipated need. Criteria for aid is based on family need as determined in the Financial Aid Procedure and school objectives to build a balanced and diverse student body.

TUITION
Parent Tuition is due in full on August 1. For re-enrolling students, a deposit of up to $1,500, (applied to tuition) is due March 1. For newly accepted students, a nonrefundable deposit of $1,500, to be applied to tuition, is due within 30 days of acceptance to hold a space until receipt of a signed Enrollment Agreement.

ADDITIONAL FEES
  • Field Trips - Academic and Social
  • Annual Fall Trips
  • Transportation
  • Library/book fees

TUITION PAYMENT PLAN
For hardship and extreme financial situations, LTS offers a payment plan at 8.5% interest per year plus 1.5% per month for late payments.

TUITION LOAN PLAN
Contact the LTS Admissions Office for information and application forms for the following programs:

FINANCIAL AID PROCEDURE
To apply for financial aid, you must complete the School and Student Service Parents Financial Statement in one of two ways:

  • Paper application to LTS. If you choose this method, please remember to include a copy of your 1040 tax return and a check for $75 to cover the cost to process your application. We recommend this way because the Business Office can quickly evaluate scholarship aid applications.

  • Online at www.nais.org/financialaid/sss.

Re-enrolling students who apply for financial aid are evaluated annually and must complete the PFS by March 1.

LTS FINANCIAL AID COMMITTEE
The Financial Aid Committee determines the level of financial aid for each student. The Business Manager notifies the family of the Financial Aid Committees decision and issues the Enrollment Agreement. If the proposed contract is not acceptable to the family, a meeting is scheduled with the Headmaster to revisit family needs and discuss options. All financial aid decisions must be approved by the Financial Aid Committee.

School Choice in Vermont

Educational choice has been in place in Vermont for more than 150 years. Town tuitions are voted on and paid to out-of-district schools in towns where public schooling is not provided. Tuition paid by these towns to Long Trail and Long Trail's own Scholarship Fund help make the school affordable.
