THE LONG TRAIL DAY
No day is typical at Long Trail! Class schedules rotate daily, and the school day runs from 8:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. Monday thru Thursday and 8:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. on Fridays.
Every day begins for students with Advisories, a small group of students and a faculty advisor. Following Advisories on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, students in grades 6 - 12 assemble in the Riley Levin Theater for a long standing Long Trail tradition, Morning Meeting. Run by members of the Senior Class, Morning Meeting brings together the school community for the purpose of special announcements, amusing anecdotes, drama and musical performances, contests, and celebrations of achievement. A morning break between classes provides students with the opportunity to recharge and refuel prior to the remainder of the a.m. schedule. Midway through the day, students may enjoy lunch in either the Hunter or Whalen Common Rooms. Both Common Rooms are equipped with refrigerators to store food and microwaves and stoves to heat food. For your convenience, at both break and lunch, School Store is open and sells a variety of snack food as well as hot and cold lunch options. Afternoon classes, and on Thursdays, Long Trail's Activity Programs, take place after lunch and prior to dismissal. At the conclusion of the school day, some Long Trail School students are picked up or board the busses; however, most remain for drama rehearsals, athletic practices, to receive additional support from teachers, or simply to 'hang out' and socialize with friends. Students in grades 6 - 8 who remain after school must attend the After-School Hours Program (ASH). ASH takes place Monday - Thursday, 3:00 - 4:45 p.m. and is comprised of a supervised study hall followed by an organized activity period. Long Trail's late bus runs Monday through Thursday. The bus leaves LTS at 5:00 p.m. and drops off at Manchester Elementary and Middle School at 5:15 p.m. |
