Join LTS’ UNICEF Club as they host their annual Oxfam America Hunger Banquet on Friday, January 31 at 6:00 pm.
WHAT IS AN OXFAM AMERICA HUNGER BANQUET?
“An Oxfam Hunger Banquet event is an interactive community event designed to bring hunger and poverty issues to life. This event is a metaphor for how food and other resources are inequitably distributed in the world. Every year, volunteers organize hundreds of these events on campuses, in places of worship, and in communities across the US.”
WHAT HAPPENS AT THE EVENT?
Oxfam Hunger Banquet guests draw tickets upon arrival. Each person is assigned by the random ticket pick to a high-, middle-, or low-income group, based on the latest statistics about global poverty. Each group then eats a corresponding meal, from nutritious to sparse. A master of ceremonies shares facts and stories about real-life inequality and invites guests to discuss their experiences. A free will donation collection is taken, with these funds sent to the Oxfam organization for aiding those in poverty.
“Oxfam is a global organization working to end the injustice of poverty. We help people build better futures for themselves, hold the powerful accountable, and save lives in disasters. Our mission is to tackle the root causes of poverty and create lasting solutions.” Oxfam America is a 501(c)(3) organization. Gifts are tax-deductible to the full extent allowable under the law.
