Passing of Dave Wilson

June 14, 2024

To the Long Trail School Community,

With deep sadness, I write to let you know that Dave Wilson passed away peacefully in the early hours of June 10, 2024, at his winter home in Florida.

Words cannot express what Dave meant to Long Trail School. Simply put, Dave Wilson was Long Trail. In partnership with his beloved wife, Rene, Dave’s vision and tireless work created this special community and, 48 years later, it continues to thrive, thanks to the Wilsons.

For 32 years, Dave served as Headmaster at Long Trail School; his impact upon students, faculty, families, Dorset, and the entire LTS community is untold. Although he officially “retired” in 2007, Dave never stopped working on behalf of the students at LTS nor devising new ways for the school to succeed. A tireless supporter and the ultimate LTS cheerleader, Dave was still on the sidelines of soccer games this fall, beaming with pride as he and Rene, watched “our kids” compete. And, just this Sunday, he enjoyed a lovely day with Rene that included phone calls with LTS alumni. He will be missed dearly. I find comfort in knowing his legacy endures daily within the walls of Long Trail and his spirit lives on through LTS families around the world.

On Saturday, August 17, we will have a Celebration of Life for Dave Wilson at Long Trail School. We will share more information once the details are finalized. At Dave’s request, Rene asks that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Founders Fund for Financial Aid at Long Trail School.

I hope to see many of you on August 17 to honor Dave and share memories of his remarkable life. For now, I know you join me in expressing condolences to Rene and all those who loved Dave Wilson.

Colin Igoe
Head of School
