Education: BFA, Keene State College; Teaching License, Castleton State College
Hakan’s focus within the arts leans towards sculpture, his particular passions being stone carving and steel sculpture welding. Hakan’s students would say that one of his greatest gifts is his ability to make you think more deeply about any and all aspects of a project. His consistency in exposing students to new ideas, media, concepts, creative and critical thinking allows for deeper levels of complexity within every student’s art.
Hakan studied art and education while receiving a BFA at Keene State College of New Hampshire. After teaching sustainable dairy farming and vegetable production on a teaching farm in Keene, he moved to Vermont to be a teaching assistant at the West Rutland Carving Studio where he not only broadened his skills and abilities but discovered a passion for stone carving.
Hakan has also worked as a blacksmith at a high end lighting company in Castleton; taught art at Salem Art Works in Salem, NY; built and installed sculpture in New Orleans for an organization called Sculpture for New Orleans. He received his VT. Licensure in art education at Castleton State College.
Hakan was born in Sweden and grew up in the Mount Washington valley of New Hampshire, currently lives locally with his family.
