Expectations

  • Students are expected to be present and enjoy the experience. This is the week to give your child space to be with friends and form new relationships, soak in the history and attractions offered in DC, and hopefully take a break from phones and devices. Please do not expect your child to be in constant contact with you, rather encourage them to take the opportunity to unplug and fully participate in this dynamic trip.
  • The threshold for unacceptable behavior during this trip is significantly lower than our standards at school. Students are expected to adhere to all school rules when traveling. Infractions of school rules will result in the student being sent home immediately, at their parent’s expense.
  • It is crucial that our students exhibit proper decorum and respect, especially when visiting sensitive sites such as war memorials, the African American History Museum, and the Holocaust Museum. These places hold immense historical significance, and we must ensure that our students approach them with the utmost reverence and understanding. We kindly request your assistance in reminding your child about the importance of respectful behavior, active participation, and attentive listening while on the trip.

Health & Safety

Please log into your Veracross portal to confirm that all Health Information is current and accurate.

If your child takes a daily medication it needs to be administered by a chaperone. Please pack just enough for the week in a bottle labeled with their name and dosing directions, and drop if off with Paula or Stephenie by Fri., Nov. 3 so it can be packed for safe keeping.

Weather

The average high temp in DC in November is 60 and the low is 38. That said, days can range from warm to cool and nights cool to cold. Look at the weather for Washington, DC just before packing on Nov 6 and make sensible decisions on what to pack in terms of long or short tops and pants, as well as rain gear. Remember you want clothes that are going to be comfortable to walk around in for an entire day into the evening.
