YouScience

YouScience

As part of Long Trail’s commitment to guiding students toward fulfilling career paths, we use a valuable tool called YouScience. This innovative platform goes beyond traditional interest surveys by utilizing engaging ‘brain games’ to identify and measure students’ natural aptitudes, which are crucial in making informed career choices. YouScience then translates these talents, combined with students’ interests, into a comprehensive report highlighting their strengths and work styles, ultimately providing recommendations for various career paths.

All 10th grade students complete the YouScience assessments during their dedicated College & Career Counseling class mid-May. Some students may require additional time outside of class to finish all nine modules, and we encourage them to complete any remaining assessments at home or during study hall.

Following the completion of assessments, the Director of College and Career Counseling schedules individual meetings with students during the last two weeks of school to review the results with students. This is an invaluable opportunity for them to explore the career recommendations provided by YouScience. Parents are encouraged to discuss the findings with their child, as there is a wealth of information to unpack.

Looking ahead to next year, the College and Career focus will shift towards exploring the pathways to the identified careers. While college may be the preferred or required route for most (94%) Long Trail students’ plans, we are committed to supporting each student in finding the pathway that best suits their aspirations and goals. Whether it’s pursuing higher education, entering the workforce directly, or joining the military, we believe in honoring the diverse talents and aspirations of our students.

Long Trail’s goal is to provide comprehensive guidance and resources to help students navigate their chosen pathways successfully. We offer personalized counseling sessions, workshops, and resources to assist students in making informed decisions about their future endeavors. At Long Trail, we recognize that success looks different for every individual, and we are committed to empowering each student to pursue their passions and achieve their goals. By offering a supportive and inclusive environment, we aim to equip students with the skills, knowledge, and confidence they need to thrive in whichever path they choose to pursue.

The Director of College & Career Counseling is eager to embark on this journey alongside you and your child. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns along the way.
