LONG TRAIL SCHOOL HIRES SETH RICE TO COACH VARSITY BASKETBALL

Long Trail School is excited to announce that it has hired Seth Rice to coach boys varsity basketball this season. Approved by the Vermont Principals Association as well as the Marble Valley League, Long Trail has fielded varsity basketball teams for two years.

As a sign of the school’s continued growth, this hiring will grow the team in its varsity level preparation. Director of Athletics Tim Smith is excited by Rice joining the Long Trail family. “Seth’s wealth of knowledge will transform our players,” Smith commented. “He has a reputation for basketball excellence in Southern Vermont that made us pursue him as our coach.”

Rice has an impressive background in local basketball. A member of the 1981 Division II state championship basketball team at Burr and Burton, he has coached at Manchester Elementary-Middle School and was a coach at Burr and Burton for 10 years. Rice has led teams to Marble Valley League and State titles and has received coaching accolades including the  Vermont Basketball Coaches Association’s Coach of the Year award in 2006. Teams under his leadership have received accolades including the Mona Garone Sportsmanship Award (2006).

In its first varsity season in 2015-16, Long Trail posted a solid 9-9 record and has senior Liam Sheldon returning after selection as a First Team All Marble Valley League player last year. Asked what excites him about coaching at Long Trail, Rice commented, “I really appreciate the small-school atmosphere.These guys had a good season last year and I look forward to helping them grow and advance.”
