VERMONT HISTORY DAY AWARDS 8 LONG TRAIL STUDENTS

On April 2, Long Trail School sent 15 students to join over 200 others at  Vermont History Day in Montpelier. The competition expects primary source research shared through original dramatic performances, documentaries, research papers, websites, and three-dimensional exhibits. Coached by LTS Social Studies chair Tess Kahn, this group of students was highly successful in their representation of their work. Savannah Hastings and Amelia Perkins won third place in Group Exhibits for their project titled “The National American Woman Suffrage Association”.”The NFL: More Than Just Football”  by Cole Norkon, Nate Misasi and Levin Coe received second place for Group Documentary.

Three Long Trail students were awarded first place in their categories and are now eligible to compete at the National History Days finals on June 12-16 at the University of Maryland, College Park, near Washington, DC. As a team, Kristina Hilliard and Sionann Harrington won first prize for their Group Website titled “World War II: The Influence of Imagery”. First place winner Greta Schaub produced an Individual Exhibit titled “The Exploration of Amelia Earhart”. “This was a great chance for the students to share and learn from each other and from other researchers against whom they competed,” noted Kahn. “I am very proud of the hard work which they all did: it was a an exceptional experience and one which Long Trail will plan on attending again.”
