National Honor Society

The National Honor Society (NHS) was established in the 1920s to recognize outstanding students of scholarship, promote leadership and develop the character of high school students. These purposes translate into the criteria that LTS uses as membership for our local chapter and all members are expected to maintain the society’s expectations.

To be eligible to apply to NHS, a student must have attended LTS for at least one full year. The criteria for membership includes consistent grades in all courses above an 90 (88 for IB courses) as well as demonstrated excellence in leadership, service, and character within the Long Trail community. Eligible students are sent an application over the summer. There is an induction ceremony in the fall.

Food Chain Fundraiser

NHS will be selling links to a paper “food chain” for $1 a piece and all proceeds will go to local food pantries in the lead up to the holiday season. The links will be sold in white, black, red or blue to represent your color team. All physical sales will take place during lunch or you can venmo (@longtrailschool) with the notation of NHS and the color team of your choice. Parents are welcome to participate through the LTS Venmo account (please note your child’s color team). The chain will be hung with its start in Whalen and travel through the school. Let’s show our color team spirit and LTS core values by giving back to our community.
